Quality and Manufacture: The Organic Maca Powder here at Indigo herbs is grown at an altitude of 4000 metres in the Carhuamayo province on the Bombom Plateau of Peru. The seeds are sown in September at the beginning of the rainy season during the early morning before high winds gather for the day. Either the farmers use branches or release sheep onto the planting area to press the seed into the ground. The seed are then left to grow for a total of 9 months until May when the Maca tuber has grown to 5cm in diameter. After the Maca root has been carefully harvested by hand, it is left to dry for a period of 10-15 days until it is completely dry, then transported to a processing plant. Here the Maca tubas go through stringent checks and selections where only the best examples are washed and prepared to be cut into 10mm pieces. These segments are then dehydrated at 45°C until they are ready for milling. During milling the raw Maca material is reduced to a particle size of 0.251 mm through a 60 mesh specification into a very fine powder. The whole procedure from whole living plant to powder is constantly checked so there are absolutely no pollutants or chemicals used in the growing or processing of this premium Organic Maca Powder.
