This is the second of the Chronicles of the Maca series which I have read. I enjoyed this one more than the first for many reasons. By that remark I certainly don't mean to denigrate the first book for it was necessary to the enjoyment of the second. In this story Anna's children, Lorenz, Daniel, and Margareatha return home to live with Anna and Zeb, the Maca. And in the end times of the story Zeb's mother surfaces as well. The twists and turns of a "wild" Lorenz and a patient Maca, as well as a patient but demanding Anna, weave quite a story in and of themselves. Then add in the mixture the return of Daniel, a less loyal son, a question mark in the family, and Rity, in the same posture as Daniel being owned to some degree by a shady character named O' Neal. The mixture tells a tremendous tale of family intrigue, learning, acceptance and some rejection. This series is many books long and having read the first two it is imperative to read on now. I highly recommend this book.
